Anthony Frank, MD for GMEWelcome to Morganton, North Carolina – “Nature’s Playground.”  We are thrilled that you have visited our residency and fellowship sites and that we have the opportunity to connect with you to tell you about our educational opportunities. At Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge, we look forward to telling you more about the great care we are providing to patients and families.

While our programs are newer in the residency and fellowship ACGME matches, we are proud of what we have developed and continue to build upon here in a community environment of care. We cherish the opportunity to participate in your next phase of medical training as one of our residents or fellows.

We are friends and neighbors taking care of friends and neighbors.  As a mid-sized community hospital, we function in a management agreement with Atrium Health which provides “Big City” back up to a strong community medical staff, medical facility, and progressive organization.  Our hospital’s physicians, administrative team, and hospital board are highly integrated and function in a collegial and system-based approach focusing on patient and family centered care and placing these values at the heart of what we do and in the daily decisions that we make in our organization.

Teammate input from all aspects of our organization and most importantly from the front line of care by doctors and nurses is highly valued and is a focus of our system of care. Engagement and wellness are high priorities for our team and a focus of our residency and fellowship leadership as well as the organization overall.

We are committed to be a Zero Harm organization and patient safety is paramount in our daily approach to care.  We believe in High Reliability and focus on consistent excellence in quality and safety for every patient, every time.  We recognize that our residents are key to achieving success in these initiatives and are our front line of care and critical to the engagement of our patients and their families.  We provide resident training in Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement, and most residents will spend time working on QI/PI projects during their time at CHSBR.

Our faculty love to teach and work with residents. They bring a diverse and vast clinical knowledge to our program and learners with a focus on the whole patient and how we care for patients in todays complex environment of care.  Through our 3-year internal medicine program our residents become skilled in caring for patients with broad spectrums of disease and disorders through their inpatient and outpatient rotations.

At CHSBR research abounds.  For a smaller community location, we have active research faculty that present locally and nationally at conferences.  Our residents are expected to engage in a mentored research project during their training and projects and posters are presented at our annual Quality and Research Day.   We actively recruit our trainees to stay with us or return after fellowship to our health system.  Our community is thriving based on our unique location and proximity to Asheville and Charlotte which continues to provide growing employment opportunities in primary care, hospital medicine and specialty care areas.

This is an exciting time to be entering residency training at CHSBR, we hope to welcome you to one of our upcoming classes of residents and fellows.
